Nikon lens set-up/help?
I looking to buy some lenses for my Nikon D5000. My set-up would be:
1. tokina 12-24mm f4 (landscape)
2. sigma 24-70mm f2.8 (landscape and everyday use)
3. sigma 70-200mm f2.8 (sport, hockey, basketball etc...)

I like your thinking. Spending the majority of your budget on fast glass is wise.
If you go with the Tokina 12-24, make sure it is the "AT-X 124 AF Pro DX II" version, not the "AT-X 124 AF Pro DX".

The 70-200 is almost a necessity for sports. You NEED that f/2.8 when you are shooting indoors or under lights at night.

Are canon,sigma and phoenix lenses all compatible with the Olympus Evolt 510 DSLR?
each time i do a search for a large telephoto such as (Phoenix 650-1300mm Telephoto Zoom Lens ) these brands pop up on places like Amazon and Ebay,,,also there are no reviews/feedback on brands like Opteka and Phoenix-does ANYONE buy them and give feedback?

The only lenses compatible with the Olympus E-Volt are 4/3 lenses.
At this stage, that's Olympus 4/3 lenses; the Sigma lenses that have the 4/3 mount, and some Panasonic lenses.

I will probably review the ABH 230-k on this blog someday, but I just want to say that this ball head is rock solid. I used the Pentax K-r with the DA-L 55-300 mm mounted on a Vanguard ABH 230-k ball-head attached to a cheapo Dolica tripod. I processed the DNG file in Aperture 3 using Exposure sliders and the Curves tool, applying what I learned from the book I just finished reading and have reviewed in the previous post – Getting Started with Camera Raw by Ben Long. All the cheapo heads would sag when I mounted the 55-300 on them, even when they were fully tightened. I’ve used several cheapo ball-heads before finally spending the money to get a good one. With the ABH 230-k there is no noticeable sag, it stays where you set it and it doesn’t even have to be fully tightened.
